Alpha-Optics provides right-angle prisms that are precision polished to tight tolerances for demanding applications. They are available in either BK 7 or UV grade fused silica. BK 7 prisms are recommended for general laboratory use in the visible and near IR. For UV, infrared, or thermally sensitive applications fused silica prisms are advised. Our fused silica prisms are manufactured to exacting specifications and are useful from 185 nm–2.1 µm.
By means of total internal reflection (TIR), a right-angle prism may be used as a 90° reflector or as a 180° retroreflector. Except for reflection losses from the entry and exit faces, TIR exhibits 100% reflectivity over a very large wavelength range.
